HubSpot was founded in 2006 by MIT grads Brian Halligan and Dharmesh Shah.

What began as an idea for creating a software company soon evolved into a new marketing approach called "Inbound."

Their vision was based on the observation that consumers had changed the way they make purchasing decisions but businesses had not changed their sales and marketing approach.

They recognized that consumers now control more of the sales cycle by conducting their own research for products and services and by sharing their views and experiences with other consumers.

They also recognized that businesses needed a better marketing approach (i.e., the Inbound Methodology) and an easy way to implement it (i.e., all-in-one marketing software).
